Constant Contact integration

Constant Contact countdown timer that updates on every open

Constant Contact has no countdown timer of its own, so its users add one as an image. A Constant Contact countdown timer from flashtimer is a live GIF drawn when each contact opens your email, so it always shows the real time left. Paste one image URL into an Image block, or the HTML snippet into a custom code email, on any plan, including Free.

Step by step

How to add a countdown timer to a Constant Contact email

  1. Create the timer

Describe the sale and Create with AI drafts it (Basic and up), or build it in the editor: end date and time, a layout, your brand colors and the label language. Choose Fixed for a deadline everyone shares.

  2. Copy the image URL

Open Embed and copy the image URL. The HTML snippet is there too if you build emails in code. (The dialog asks for your email platform only for an evergreen or dynamic timer; then choose Constant Contact.) Constant Contact is a snippet platform: there is nothing to connect, and you paste the timer in yourself.

  3. Paste the URL in the editor (every plan, including Free)

In Constant Contact's drag-and-drop editor, add or select an Image block, open its image options and paste the timer address into the image URL field rather than uploading a file. Add your sale page as the link. In a custom code email, paste the HTML snippet where the timer belongs.

  4. Restate the deadline, test, send

Add one line of text under the timer, such as "Sale ends Monday at 11:59pm ET". Send a test email, open it in Gmail, Apple Mail and Outlook, check the countdown, then schedule.

Why Constant Contact users add a countdown timer

Constant Contact's own community board has a long-running request for a countdown timer in the email editor, and staff replies there confirm there isn't a native one. Their suggested workaround, a plain animated GIF, restarts from the beginning every time it is opened, so a reader who opens a day later sees the wrong time.

A flashtimer timer fixes that. The image is rendered on the server at the moment of each open, so Tuesday's open shows Tuesday's time left. It suits the deadlines small businesses run on: a Black Friday countdown timer email, an event registration cutoff, a holiday order date, or the last day of a membership drive.

Image URL or custom code

There are two ways in, depending on how you build emails. The image URL route works in the standard drag-and-drop editor on any Constant Contact plan and any flashtimer plan, including Free. The key detail is to paste the address rather than upload the GIF: an uploaded file is a copy frozen at the moment you saved it.

If you build with Constant Contact's custom code editor, paste flashtimer's HTML snippet into your code where the timer belongs. The same timer can go into as many emails as you like. See every plan on the pricing page.

Evergreen and recurring timers in Constant Contact

An evergreen timer gives each contact their own window, such as 48 hours from their first open, which is what an automated welcome or reminder email needs. It needs a per-contact tag in the timer URL, and the Embed dialog adds Constant Contact's for you when you choose it as the email platform. Constant Contact personalizes the email's HTML, but not always a URL typed into an image field, so for evergreen build the email in the custom code editor, paste the snippet, and test with two contacts: each should see their own countdown.

If your deadline repeats, a recurring countdown timer is simpler and needs no tag at all: "order by 2pm for same-day pickup" resets every day in your time zone, in any block. Read how evergreen works on the evergreen countdown timer email page, and see the welcome email discount countdown for a typical automation.

What contacts see, and what happens after the deadline

The timer works in Gmail, Apple Mail, Yahoo, Outlook on the web, Mac and mobile, and every client that shows images. Classic Outlook for Windows (2007–2019, and newer versions with Windows animations turned off) shows only the first frame of a GIF, which is the correct time at the moment of opening but doesn't tick, so keep the deadline in text. Apple Mail Privacy Protection pre-fetches images. By default those loads get the live countdown as it stood then; on Pro and up, Apple Mail options can show them a message, your fallback image or nothing instead, so cached opens never show a stale time.

When the sale ends, the timer shows your expiry message or, from Basic up, your own fallback image, such as "This sale has ended, see this week's specials". Match it to your Constant Contact template with brand colors and fonts on the custom branded countdown timer page.

Troubleshooting a Constant Contact countdown timer

Check these first.

  • The timer is frozen: the GIF was uploaded to your Library. Delete it and paste the flashtimer URL into the image URL field instead.
  • The image doesn't appear at all: make sure you pasted the full image address, starting with https, not the link to the flashtimer editor.
  • Every contact sees the same evergreen countdown: the per-contact tag wasn't filled in. Choose Constant Contact as the email platform in the Embed dialog, paste the snippet into a custom code email, and test with two contacts.
