Step by step

How to switch from CountdownMail to flashtimer

  1. Recreate the timer

Type the offer into Create with AI (Basic and up), for example "20% off weekend sale, 3 days", and review the draft; it counts from now, so set the exact end in the date picker. Or rebuild it in the editor on any plan. Map CountdownMail's Global Date timers to fixed timers, Evergreen to evergreen, and Dynamic to dynamic timers.

  2. Replace the image URL

Swap the CountdownMail embed for the flashtimer image URL or HTML snippet in each template and flow. Choose your email platform in the Embed dialog so evergreen timers carry its per-recipient merge tag, where the platform has one.

  3. Set the expired state

Write an expiry message or upload a fallback image (Basic and up), the equivalent of CountdownMail's custom expired timer.

  4. Test before you send

Send a test to Gmail, Apple Mail and Outlook, and leave the old timer running until emails already delivered have passed their deadline.

Where CountdownMail is a strong choice

CountdownMail's free plan is generous. Its pricing page lists unlimited views on Free, with evergreen and dynamic timers included; the trade-off is a "Powered by CountdownMail" badge on each timer. If you send large volumes and don't mind the badge, that is hard to beat at $0.

Paid plans are inexpensive too. As shown to a US visitor in October 2026: Starter $7, Boost $19, Growth $39, Pro $69 and Enterprise $199 a month, VAT included, for 100,000 up to 10,000,000 views, with two months free on annual billing. Growth and up roll unused credits over. It also lists a REST API, real-time analytics with two years of history, team permissions and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

CountdownMail vs flashtimer: where flashtimer is different

flashtimer puts more into setup and placement. Create with AI drafts a timer from one sentence (Basic and up), and an AI countdown timer generator is not something CountdownMail lists. On Pro, flashtimer connects to 20 email platforms and drops the timer into a draft campaign or template; CountdownMail describes copy-and-paste embed code.

Store sync is another difference. Pro plans turn Shopify discounts and WooCommerce coupons into timers and keep their end dates in step with the store. Pro also adds an MCP server alongside the REST API, so you can create timers from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok. Business plans run A/B tests of timer designs.

The repeating timers work differently. CountdownMail's looping timer resets each time it reaches zero. flashtimer's recurring countdown timer follows a wall-clock rule in a time zone, such as every weekday at 2pm, which suits same-day dispatch cut-offs; flashtimer also has cycle timers that loop every N minutes, hours or days.

CountdownMail pricing vs flashtimer pricing

Paid prices are close. CountdownMail's entry plan is cheaper ($7 for 100,000 views against $9 for 150,000 on flashtimer Basic); 1,000,000 views cost $39 on CountdownMail Growth and $35 on flashtimer Pro; 3,000,000 views cost $69 on both. CountdownMail's Free plan has no view cap, while flashtimer's stops at 20,000. Note that CountdownMail prices include VAT while flashtimer's plans are quoted excluding VAT.

Overages are handled differently. CountdownMail adds extra credits automatically and bills them on your next invoice at your plan's rate (listed from $0.07 down to $0.02 per 1,000). flashtimer has no overage billing: on every plan, timers switch to a static image once usage passes the allowance, plus any top-up credit, by 4%. Paid plans can buy a top-up pack to keep them live, by hand or automatically when usage crosses a threshold you choose, if you switch automatic top-ups on.

Inbox behavior: Outlook and Apple Mail

Both tools serve animated GIFs. CountdownMail's FAQ says desktop Outlook may show only the first frame and recommends making that frame show the deadline clearly; flashtimer gives the same advice, and its first frame is the correct time left at the moment of opening. For Apple Mail Privacy Protection, CountdownMail can hide the timer for Apple Mail readers on iOS 15+, while flashtimer Pro lets you show Apple Mail a message, your fallback image or nothing instead of the countdown, so cached opens are never stale.
