Halloween

Halloween email example with a live countdown timer

A small-batch candle maker's Halloween sale, start to finish. The countdown sits straight on the photograph, with no box and no background, so it reads as part of the scene rather than a widget pasted on top.

Dear night owl,

The clocks go back, the porch lights come on and the house smells of woodsmoke by six. It's our favorite week of the year, so for a few nights everything we pour is a quarter off. Light something slow.

Why it works

What makes this email work

Subject lines

Other subject lines to try

Test two against each other. The timer stays the same, so you learn what the words do.

Build it

Build it in flashtimer

  1. 1Pick a style without a box

In the timer editor choose Minimal, switch on the transparent background, and set the matte color to the darkest tone of your hero photo so the edges of the digits blend in.

  2. 2Take the colors from the email

Use the email's cream for the digits and its pumpkin orange for the labels and dividers, so the timer looks drawn by the same hand.

  3. 3Set the deadline and the ending

Choose when the sale ends, then write the message readers see after it: The Long Night is over. See you next October.

  4. 4Place it in the hero

Paste the embed code into your email platform. Set the hero photo as the block's background and put the headline and timer on top of it.
