Shopify is a popular platform for running flash sales, and for good reason: its discount system is flexible, its checkout is fast, and its app ecosystem is huge. Here's the process we recommend for setting up a flash sale that converts.
Head to Discounts → Create discount in your Shopify admin. Shopify first asks you to pick a discount type: Amount off products, Amount off order, Buy X get Y or Free shipping. Then choose a percentage or fixed value, and set the start and end dates carefully. The end date is what will drive your countdown timer.
flashtimer isn't installed from the Shopify App Store. You connect your store from flashtimer instead:
your-store.myshopify.com).With automation on, flashtimer creates one timer for every Shopify discount that has an end date. If you change the discount's end date, the timer's deadline stays in sync. If you delete the discount, the timer is archived. Each discount gets its own timer and its own GIF URL, which you paste into the emails promoting that discount. The Shopify integration page covers the rest, including Shopify Messaging.
Drive all email clicks to a dedicated sale landing page or collection, and make sure the discount applies cleanly at checkout.
If you're selling limited stock, a stock monitor (Business and up) can end the countdown early: it expires a timer when a product's stock drops to a threshold you set, so you never keep promoting an item that has sold out. (It doesn't display stock counts in the email; it controls when the timer expires.)
After the sale, check Shopify Analytics for revenue by source, and use UTM parameters on your email links so sales are attributed to the right send. Compare click rates across your three emails, and review your timer's views and clicks in flashtimer. The data from one sale is the brief for the next one.
